Sweater in progress!

So I have officially started! I chose to use the auto cast-on, which is to say, we had a long trip to a barbecue in Sonoma today, so I did my gauge check and cast on in the car. This tiny bit is how much I've completed, mostly on the trip back to San Francisco.

You may be able to see that I chose to use moss stitch, just as the pattern indicates, instead of garter stitch, which looked icky when I did my gauge check.

Finally, the yarn isn't really this blue... it's a muted heathery color in real life (WoolEase worsted in Blue Mist). Don't love working with acrylic, but I've learned from experience that whatever I make for my kids needs to stand up to repeated washings. In the washing machine.

Gonna start any day now, I swear...

I'll be knitting a sweater for my little one... I've knitted a couple of sweaters for my oldest (and someday those will be passed to the baby), but the only thing I've knitted for my little one are mittens and a shrug that she refuses to wear. I attempted to knit her a sweater to match her pretty blue eyes, but even though I was knitting exactly at the suggested gauge, it came out huge. It will fit her a year from now, I'm guessing.

The sweater I'm doing is not nearly as beautiful as the photos you other ladies are showing, but it's gotta be quick for me or it will never get done. So, here is the mostly stockinette, worsted weight sweater I'll be knitting along with you.

The shoulders, cuffs, and hem have seed stitch borders, which, depending on how my chosen yarn looks when I swatch, I may just do in garter stitch.

Cheater cheater pumpkin eater.

Feel free to kick me out if I'm cheating. But here's the thing: I'm a mama to two little girls (3 and 1), I work 18 hours a week at my paying job, and I've only been knitting since November. So I am Very Slow. And I have Very Little Time for knitting.

So although I should be knitting for my two DDs, instead I am working on this for my sister-in-law's first child, due in September. It is the Big Bad Baby Blanket from the first Stitch n' Bitch book.

Also, for my girls, I want to make Green Gablets. In my defense, I have no pattern. Haha! So I must neglect my own children for my yet unborn nephew or niece. I have got to finish the blanket by August 31 if I want to send it back to Spain with my sister-in-law (not the one expecting, different SIL).

I promise to share updated progress on the BBBB and promise to make the green gablets AS SOON as I finish it. They will make fab Christmas presents! Am I right?

Please don't kick me out.... :(

Girlie as it gets!

Hi all! We're getting new members everyday so make sure you ask your friends to join too. It will be great to introduce each other to new patterns and to read funny stories too. Remember (actually there is nothing to remember, I just realized that I haven't even said anything about this yet!) you don't have to be a mommy. An aunt, sister, grandma, or friend of a little bit will do too. Just so long as your knitting for a kidlet.

So here is the project that I'm knitting for Peanut. I bought the pattern and yarn last summer... but I never knit it.... hence this blog I guess.

The pattern is available here. I'll post progress as soon as I have yarn bought. ta ta ladies.

Need Opinion

Hey ladies! So I am thinking about knitting this sweater for my little girl. http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/PATTtrellis.html I love the pattern, but is it too boyish looking? I also hate to seam, but I figure maybe on a baby sweater it won't be that bad?!?! I am wondering if I am crazy taking on something with this many cables though.... What do you think???

Wanna Play

So I had an epiphany. I have only ever knit 1 thing for my poor Peanut. One! She is two years old and only has one measly thing to show for having a knitting mommy. Sare (my best friend and fellow selfish mommy knitter) and I realized very fast that Peanut, Manager and Lady E are left out and need some loven folks! So after I posted this at my blog, Niki over at nice knits had the greatest idea. Some one should start a KAL to motivate us yarn addicted moms to actually knit OUR KIDS something. What a concept, ah?

So here we go. Sarah and I (Rachel) are going to host this fun blog for those of you who want to start and finish knits for your peanuts, beans, managers or whatever nick name you may have.

So send us an email and we'll get this rolling!

It can be your first, second or hundredth item... only rule is that it's knit or crocheted and that it's for your little bit. Cause let's face it girls, it's just around the corner that they'll be refusing to wear it!

*** Just wanted to add that you do not have to be a mommy to join. Aunt, sister, grandma or friend work too. Heck, if there are any guy swho want to knit for there kidlet you are more than welocme! Just so long as y'all are knitting for a little bit.
